Most people who watch porn do it less than once a week. In a nationally representative survey of US adult internet users, 61.0% of past-year viewers watched less than weekly and only 9.7% watched daily (our calculation from published counts).
Sessions are short, too. The average Pornhub visit lasted 9 minutes 33 seconds in 2025, and UK adults who visited porn sites spent 93 minutes a month on them in the first half of 2024.
In this article, we’ll break down how often people watch porn by gender and age, how that has changed, how long a session lasts, how much time people spend per week and month, and how often is too often.
Top Porn Frequency Statistics
- Only 9.7% of US adults who watched porn in the past year watch it daily, and 61.0% watch less than once a week.
- 36% of British men watch porn at least once a week, compared with 4% of British women.
- 25% of British men under 30 watch porn every day or most days, compared with 13% to 14% of men in their 30s to 50s.
- 43% of US men saw an X-rated movie in the past year in 2022, up from 31.7% in 1973.
- The average Pornhub visit lasted 9 minutes 33 seconds in 2025, 55 seconds shorter than in 2019, the highest year with published data.
- UK adults who visit porn sites spend 93 minutes a month on them, about 3.1 minutes a day.
- In a 35-day diary study, men used porn on 5.90 days on average and women on 1.75 days.
How Often Does the Average Person Watch Porn?
Less than once a week. 61.0% of US adult internet users who watched porn in the past year did so less than weekly, 29.3% watched weekly but not daily, and 9.7% watched daily, based on our calculation from counts published by Grubbs, Kraus & Perry (2019).

Occasional use is the largest group. 38.6% of past-year viewers watched less than once a month and another 22.4% one to three times a month. Measured against all adults in the survey, viewers or not, 19.9% watch weekly or more and 5.0% watch daily.
Here’s a breakdown of how often US past-year viewers watch porn, by gender:
| How Often | Men | Women | All Past-Year Viewers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Less than monthly | 31.8% | 52.0% | 38.6% |
| 1–3 times a month | 21.0% | 25.1% | 22.4% |
| Weekly, not daily | 35.4% | 17.2% | 29.3% |
| Daily or more | 11.8% | 5.6% | 9.7% |
Recent viewers watch more often. Among UK adults who chose to watch porn in the past three months, 62% watched at least weekly and 12% about daily or more, in a 2025 opt-in panel survey of 2,021 people for the British Board of Film Classification by Revealing Reality. The rest, 39%, watched monthly or less.
The gap comes from who is counted. The BBFC sample leaves out people who watched only once or twice in a year, while the US figure includes them. How researchers separate healthy from problematic habits is explained in our guide on whether it’s normal to watch porn.
How Often Do Men and Women Watch Porn?
Men watch far more often. 33% of US men watch porn weekly or more and 8% daily, compared with 7.6% and 1.9% of US women, according to Grubbs, Kraus & Perry. Among past-year viewers, men are about 2.1 times as likely as women to watch daily.
The gap is wider in Britain. 36% of British men watch porn at least once a week, compared with 4% of British women, about 9 times the share, according to YouGov (2022). 13% of British men watch every day or most days.
Here’s a breakdown of frequent porn use by gender in national surveys:
| Country (Survey, Year) | Measure | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|---|
| UK (YouGov, 2022) | At least weekly | 36% | 4% |
| US (Grubbs, Kraus & Perry, 2019) | At least weekly | 33% | 7.6% |
| France (Ifop, 2023), ages 18–69 | Visited porn sites at least weekly (past 3 months) | 26% | 4% |
| US adults 18–39 (IFS/YouGov, 2024) | Daily | 16% | 7% |
| US (YouGov, 2015) | Daily | 9% | 0% (rounded) |

Sources: Grubbs, Kraus & Perry, YouGov GB, Ifop, Institute for Family Studies, YouGov US
The IFS figures come from a YouGov poll commissioned by the Institute for Family Studies, a socially conservative think tank. In the 2015 YouGov US poll, another 17% of men watched more than once a week but not daily, while only 2% of women did.
How Often Do People Watch Porn by Age?
Young men watch more often. 25% of British men under 30 watch porn every day or most days, compared with 13% to 14% of men in their 30s, 40s and 50s, about 1.9 times as many, according to YouGov (2022).
A US survey shows the same pattern. 17.3% of partnered men under 30 watch porn daily, compared with 6.9% of partnered men over 30, about 2.5 times as many, according to the 2021 National Couples and Pornography Survey by the Wheatley Institute at Brigham Young University.

Surveys don’t always agree. Only 5% of British men aged 18 to 34 said they watch porn at least once a day in a February 2026 Ipsos UK poll, with another 12% watching multiple times a week. YouGov’s “every day or most days” option is broader, and the polls were four years apart with different age bands (under 30 vs 18 to 34), which likely explains part of the gap.
Here’s a breakdown of porn use by age:
| Group | Measure | Share | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| US men 18–39 | Watched in the past week | 46% | Regnerus et al. (2016) via AIBM |
| US men 30–49 | Watched in the past month | 57% | AEI (2022) |
| US men 18–29 | Watched in the past month | 44% | AEI (2022) |
| US men 65+ | Watched in the past month | 26% | AEI (2022) |
| German panelists 18–30 | Visited porn sites in a year (tracked) | 52% | von Andrian-Werburg et al. (2023) |
| German panelists 61–65 | Visited porn sites in a year (tracked) | 33% | von Andrian-Werburg et al. (2023) |
| British adults under 30 | Watch porn at all | 48% | YouGov (2022) |
| British adults 60+ | Watch porn at all | 17% | YouGov (2022) |
Older men don’t stop entirely. In tracked browsing data from Germany, 60.2% of men aged 61 to 65 visited porn sites during the year, compared with 9.8% of women that age.
Has Porn Viewing Changed Over Time?
Slowly, and mostly upward for men. 43% of US men said they had seen an X-rated movie in the past year in the 2022 General Social Survey (GSS), according to a 2026 AIBM report citing Wright and Tokunaga (2025). That’s up 11.3 percentage points from 31.7% in 1973, per NORC.
The older wording may undercount. When the 2022 GSS asked about “pornography” instead of X-rated movies, 65% of men said they had viewed it in the past year, 22 points more.
Here’s how past-year X-rated movie viewing has changed in the GSS:
| Year | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| 1973 | 31.7% | 21.0% |
| 2000 | 32.2% | 17.8% |
| 2010 | 37.4% | 15.7% |
| 2012 | 35.0% | 15.8% |
| 2014 | 34.2% | Not reported |
| 2016 | 40.0% | Not reported |
| 2018 | 38.9% | Not reported |
| 2022 | 43% | Not reported |

Time spent is now edging down in the UK. UK adult visitors spent 1 hour 33 minutes a month on porn services in the first half of 2024, down from 1 hour 41 minutes a year earlier, according to Ofcom. Monthly reach dipped from 31% of UK online adults in May 2022 to 29% in May 2024.
How Long Do People Watch Porn per Session?
About 10 minutes. The average Pornhub visit lasted 9 minutes 33 seconds in 2025, according to the company’s Year in Review as reported by ITC.ua. That’s 55 seconds shorter than the 2019 average of 10 minutes 28 seconds, the highest in years with published data.
Visits grew longer for six years first. The average rose by 92 seconds between 2013 and 2019 (our calculation), then slipped every year with data since.
Here’s a breakdown of the average Pornhub visit by year:
| Year | Average Visit | Seconds |
|---|---|---|
| 2013 | 8 min 56 s | 536 |
| 2015 | 9 min 20 s | 560 |
| 2016 | 9 min 36 s | 576 |
| 2017 | About 10 min | 599 |
| 2018 | 10 min 13 s | 613 |
| 2019 | 10 min 28 s | 628 |
| 2022 | 9 min 54 s | 594 |
| 2024 | 9 min 40 s | 580 |
| 2025 | 9 min 33 s | 573 |

Most visits are much shorter than the average. 52% of Pornhub visits in 2019 lasted 5 minutes or less and 70% under 10 minutes, while only 0.2%, or 2 in 1,000, ran past two hours, according to company data cited by Psychology Today.

Self-reports point the same way. 77% of US university men who watched porn said a typical session lasted under 30 minutes, and only 7% said over an hour, in a study by Rosenberg and Kraus (2014) summarized by AIBM.
Third-party trackers bracket the company figure. Semrush puts the average pornhub.com visit at 10 minutes 9 seconds, per Semrush, and Similarweb at 7 minutes 13 seconds, per Similarweb (September 2026). Women’s visits ran about 15 seconds longer than men’s in 2025, according to the Buenos Aires Times.
Visit length varies by country. Japan had the longest average visit in 2025, 11 minutes 2 seconds, 89 seconds above the global average, according to Daily Hive. Visit times and traffic shares for other markets appear in the ranking of which country watches the most porn.
How Much Time Do People Spend Watching Porn per Week or Month?
About 1.5 to 2 hours a month for the average visitor. UK adults who visited porn services spent an average of 1 hour 33 minutes (93 minutes) a month on them in the first half of 2024, according to Ofcom. That works out to about 3.1 minutes a day (our calculation).
French adults spend a little longer. Adult visitors in France spent 1 hour 54 minutes (114 minutes) a month on adult sites in 2022, according to media regulator Arcom, using Médiamétrie panel data. That’s 21 minutes more than UK visitors in 2024, though the two regulators measure different years with different panels.
On the days they visited, French adults averaged 16 minutes on adult sites. On an average day, 10% of French adult internet users visited one.
Men spend more time than women. UK male visitors averaged 1 hour 44 minutes a month in May 2024, compared with around an hour for women, about 1.7 times as long, per Ofcom data reported by Telecoms.com.

Here’s a breakdown of time spent watching porn in measured and self-reported data:
| Measure | Time | Population | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly time per visitor (measured) | 114 minutes | French adults, 2022 | Arcom |
| Monthly time per visitor (measured) | 104 minutes | UK men, May 2024 | Ofcom |
| Monthly time per visitor (measured) | 93 minutes | UK adults, first half of 2024 | Ofcom |
| Weekly time (self-reported) | 4.09 hours | 64 healthy men in Berlin | Kühn & Gallinat (2014) |
| Weekly time (review of studies) | 1.25–3 hours | Men | Miller et al. (2020) via AIBM |
| Weekly time (self-reported) | 68 minutes | 556 US men, online sample | Solano et al. (2020) via AIBM |
| Weekly time, recreational users | Under 24 minutes | 830 adults, convenience sample | Vaillancourt-Morel et al. (2017) |
| Weekly time, compulsive users | 110 minutes | 830 adults, convenience sample | Vaillancourt-Morel et al. (2017) |
Self-reported weekly figures run higher than panel data, partly because most come from men only and from small or online samples. Sex writer Michael Castleman estimates that men watch 1 to 3 hours a week, an estimate that assumes men watch 50% more than they admit, per Psychology Today.
What Do Diary and Tracking Studies Show?
Day-by-day records show porn use on a minority of days. Over 35 days, participants in a diary study of 217 Canadian couples used porn on an average of 3.45 days, or about 0.69 days a week, according to Vaillancourt-Morel et al. (2020).
Men used porn on 5.90 days and women on 1.75 days, about 3.4 times as often. 61.1% of participants used porn at least once during the diary, including 80.3% of men and 47.7% of women.
Passive tracking shows a similar pattern. In browsing data from 3,018 German internet users aged 18 to 65, tracked from June 2018 to June 2019, users averaged 6.4 porn sessions a month, roughly 1.5 a week (our calculation), according to von Andrian-Werburg et al. (2023).
Here’s a breakdown of porn use in diary and tracking studies:
| Study | Measure | Men | Women | All |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Canadian couples diary, 35 days | Days with porn use | 5.90 | 1.75 | 3.45 |
| Canadian couples diary, 35 days | Used porn at least once | 80.3% | 47.7% | 61.1% |
| German web tracking, 2018–19 | Porn sessions a month (users) | 8.07 | 2.33 | 6.4 |
| German web tracking, 2018–19 | Visited porn sites during the year | 66% | 26% | 45.92% |
| European ISP data, 2014–17 | Household subscriptions accessing porn sites daily | Not reported | Not reported | 12% |

Sources: Vaillancourt-Morel et al. (2020), von Andrian-Werburg et al. (2023), Morichetta, Trevisan & Vassio
Male users in the German panel had about 3.5 times as many sessions as female users. Network data from a European internet provider tell a similar story: 27% of household subscriptions accessed porn sites within a week, and half of users spent less than 18 minutes a day on them on days they visited, per Morichetta, Trevisan & Vassio.
How Often Is Too Often to Watch Porn?
There’s no frequency cutoff, and daily viewing is uncommon, as shown above. Researchers judge problems by loss of control, distress and harm, and the World Health Organization’s ICD-11 diagnosis of compulsive sexual behaviour disorder typically requires that pattern to last 6 months or more, per FindACode.
Frequency still matters. In 34 countries, how often people watched was far more strongly linked to problematic use than moral incongruence, disapproving of porn while using it, was (standardized beta 0.627 vs 0.091), according to a 2026 International Sex Survey study by Bőthe et al. An earlier meta-analysis found a modest correlation between frequency and perceived problems (r = 0.27), per Grubbs et al.
Here’s a breakdown of how frequent use relates to problematic use:
| Measure | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Participants at risk of problematic porn use, 42 countries | 3.2% | Bőthe et al. (2024) |
| Men at risk | 6.26% | Bőthe et al. (2024) |
| Women at risk | 0.72% | Bőthe et al. (2024) |
| High-frequency users with no problems | 19–29% | Bőthe et al. (2020) |
| High-frequency users with problems | 3–8% | Bőthe et al. (2020) |
| US men who feel addicted to porn | 11% | Grubbs, Kraus & Perry (2019) |
| Treatment seeking explained by negative symptoms vs frequency | 42% vs 1% | Gola et al. (2016) |

Sources: Bőthe et al. (2024), Bőthe et al. (2024) PDF, Bőthe et al. (2020), Grubbs, Kraus & Perry, Journal of Sexual Medicine
Watching often isn’t the same as a problem. High-frequency users without problems outnumbered those with problems in all three samples Bőthe and colleagues studied. Compulsive users in a 2017 study watched about 110 minutes a week, about 4.6 times as much as recreational users, according to Inverse.
If porn use feels out of control or causes distress, a doctor or therapist is a good first step. Prevalence by country and gender, plus treatment results, are collected in these porn addiction statistics.
Methodology
We reviewed 151 data points from 43 sources. Frequency data come from the nationally representative US survey by Grubbs, Kraus & Perry (2019; n=2,075 adult internet users), YouGov polls in Britain (2022) and the US (2015), Ipsos UK (February 2026), Ifop in France (2023), the American Enterprise Institute’s Survey Center on American Life (2022), the Wheatley Institute’s National Couples and Pornography Survey (2021), the General Social Survey via NORC, Miller et al. (2020) and the American Institute for Boys and Men (2026), and the BBFC survey by Revealing Reality (2025), an opt-in panel of 2,021 UK adults who had watched porn in the past three months.
Time-spent data come from regulator panel measurements by Ofcom (Ipsos iris) and Arcom (Médiamétrie), Pornhub’s own Year in Review figures as reported by the press and, for 2019 visit lengths, by Psychology Today, Semrush and Similarweb traffic estimates, a 35-day diary study of 217 Canadian couples, a German web-tracking panel of 3,018 adults, European internet-provider data, and smaller self-report studies (Kühn & Gallinat, Solano et al., Rosenberg & Kraus, Vaillancourt-Morel et al.). The 2017 profile minutes are as reported by Inverse.
Pornhub figures are company-reported. The IFS poll was commissioned by a socially conservative think tank, and the Wheatley Institute is part of Brigham Young University, a church-sponsored university. Most frequency figures are self-reported, and health findings are correlational. Frequency shares among past-year viewers, per-day and per-week conversions, ratios and point changes are our own calculations from published figures.
