Methodology
PB Insights reports are built to be checked and cited. These are the standards every study follows. Each report also ends with its own methodology section covering the specific sources, sample sizes and limits behind it.
Sources
We work from primary sources wherever they exist: peer-reviewed studies, national surveys, company filings and press releases, court and regulatory documents, legislation, and platform-published data. Every statistic links to the source it came from, so readers can verify it themselves.
Labelling estimates
The adult industry is poorly measured, and many widely repeated figures are estimates. We say which kind of number you are reading:
- Measured or surveyed: figures from a study, survey or dataset, with the sample and date given.
- Company-reported: figures a company published about itself, such as traffic, revenue or headcount, which we have not independently verified.
- Third-party estimates: figures from analysts, market-research firms or the press, labelled as estimates.
- Our calculations: totals, differences, percentage changes, multiples and per-capita rates we derived from the sources above.
Limits
Each report states where the data runs out: small or self-selected samples, single-country surveys, self-reported behaviour, or figures that cannot be independently checked. Where sources disagree, we show the range rather than picking the most dramatic number.
Updates and corrections
We update reports when new data is published or laws change, and show the updated date on each report. If you spot an error, email press@insights.pussyboy.net and we will correct it.
